This was a pretty straight forward read! 3 stars is typically my “I like this, but probably wouldn’t double back” where 4+ would be “i recommend this to others”. Due to the immediate trigger in the beginning, not everybody is gonna vibe with this one…It’s a tricky line to walk on when including very detailed sexual assault scenes and although it didn’t bother me enough to stop reading, it WAS INSANE 😭  Sirens are known for having a dark history and this is exactly that for Sy. The story itself was a little lackluster, but with a lot of potential - knowing that there’s three more in the series makes me expect more exponential growth. Things are bound to get messy and that’s more than obvious. The ending seemed a little rushed but luckily I have the rest of the series on kindle unlimited - I’m jumping right in!

Summary:

A young lady, Syrinada, watches her life change the day of her assault. This trauma exposes her to a whole world she could have never imagined...

Love, loss, and the pursuit of answers to her questions makes this journey a wild ride! As the start to a 4-book series, this introduction shows us the history of her siren genetics and explores how sex can really make or break relationships in this new environment.

Who can she trust? Who is she now that she knows her history? What is this all for?

Why 3.75 stars?

Honestly I couldn't put the book down for too long. It was easy to follow and enjoyable, but like I stated in the earlier paragraphs, there's just not enough motion for me. There's a lot of spicy scenes, which was kind of expected from a siren story - but is that all that occurs for them? Just sex, insecurities, and sex again? Sometimes I cringed a little because it was so intimate and so descriptive and then boom - the mf dead. Head gone. Crispy smithereens of a man.

The trigger warning in the beginning stopped a lot of folks from continuing to read, and I completely understand. I give mad respect to Ms. Jessica Cage for providing a stopping page to protect readers who don't want to read that kind of descriptive assault...but honey I'm nosey. And that shit made my skin crawl!

There were some editing errors, some lackluster character development but I'm here for a good time, not a long time - so we'll be continuing into the next part. I hope Latasha comes back into play, I hope Sy's aunt get her ass beat, and chile...I hope Sy meets her match. Don't be dragging us through these love interests either. You better pick and choose wisely!!!!

Spoiler for Book 2...

Oh they move real fast from the very beginning. Hold on to your seat because the first thing I said was WHAT THE FUCK!? just in the Prologue.
